Since we have a thread here dedicated as to what models went from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , let's do it the other way round!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

In my opinion, this '09 Mustang was alright... But it was shit on many levels, especially any of the engines it was available with. Even though I have a soft spot for the 4.6 and 5.4 modulars, the 4.6 especially just didn't generate a whole lot of power.

Kinja'd!!!

Then, 2010, Ford tweaks a few lines, tightens up the headlights and the car went from boy racer, to something slightly graduated from that. More importantly a V6 that's competitive with the outgoing V8 and an all new 5.0!

Kinja'd!!!

Here we have the 2009 Taurus, it was riding on a dated Volvo platform that should've been killed off with the failure of the Fivehundred.

Kinja'd!!!

Then in 2010, we not only get a all new Taurus, while still on the same platform, its characteristics are improved beyond recognition. It's roof-line is less like that of a massive Beetle. But even more importantly, and I am admittedly biased here, we get the return of the SHO! With 365hp of Ecoboost glory.

Mk4 GTI - Overweight, overcomplicated, and underpowered in 1.8T but unreliable and difficult to tune with the VR6

Kinja'd!!!

mK5 gti - Much nicer all around car with the excellent 2.0 TFSI motor. Lots of torque and power while easily hitting 250+ hp with mild upgrades. Available with manual or dual clutch and hosting a full suite of handling upgrades over the base golf. When launched in 2006, it was considered one of the best handling cars you could buy. And considering what was available at the time, I believe them.

The Taurus is possibly the best example in recent years. Another good example is the Opel Corsa:

In few words, how to make the most "meh" car at everything. As desirable as DSTs.

Kinja'd!!!

In stark contrast with its predecessor, pretty much one of the best subcompact cars around.

Haha, the first car I rode in, that I remember (there are some where I was too young to remember), was an Opel Kadett.

That newer gen Corsa, does indeed look leaps and bounds better, sort of like how the Focus here in the US went from shit to hit. Such a big hit that it's the most sold vehicle..... in the worrrrrld.

Also, C4 to C5, though I personally have always had a soft spot for C4s because my mom drove Chevy's during my pre-teen/early teen years and I played in the C4's while we were in the dealer for trade in's and repairs.

Shit

Kinja'd!!!

Weak engines compared to the competition. Poor interior. Styling that made it look like an overgrown Tiburon, and not in a good way.

Hit:

Kinja'd!!!

Drastically improved interior fit and finish. Competitive engines; 274 hp 2.0T or 348 hp sixer. Styling wise it may be a bit more polarizing, but they successfully went from Derpface to Squeeface and pulled it off rather nicely

The Focus never really had a 'shit' generation here. The Mark 1 was great, the Mark 2 was great, the Mark 2 facelift was great, and the Mark 3 continues to be great.

I frequently confuse the new one with the Fusion. From certain angles. and a little bit of distance, lol.

Kinja'd!!! GTI MkVII > Yowen - not necessarily not spaghetti and meatballs
02/21/2014 at 09:30

Kinja'd!!!0

Absolutely disagree. Sure, it looks nicer. But its WAY too large to be called a car at this point. It's nearly as tall as some crossovers and SUV's. And that would make sense, since it shares a platform with the Explorer.

actually, my brother owns the one up top and I'd say it's not that shitty to be honest
The old elantra is a lot more utilitarian, but at least it doesn't look as ugly as the new one! The new elantra is fugly, and the amount of headroom in the back is laughable.
I'd say it went from meh to meh with a lot better fuel efficiency

Much the same could be said for Ford.

Focus, Mustang, Taurus, Escape, they are all in one metric or another a hit.

The older one is, compared to what you can get these days, shit. But in its own time, it was pretty good for a compact. A friend of mine is on his second one. I'm pretty sure he never does any maintenance, including oil changes, and they keep going. I helped change the oil on his previous one, and when I took out the drain plug less than a quart came out. His current one can't maintain an idle due to how much has gone bad, he told me it was the exhaust manifold and the exhaust gasket. And yet it drives around, and has 210+k miles.
